Alice Coopers “Desperado” or Elvis Costello’s version of “(What’s so funny about) Peace Loveand Understanding”. But they’re rarely in the book any more. My dream song is Iggy Pops “The Undefeated” but I’ve never seen it listed
During this pandemic I fully gave in to my fiancé and tried karaoke at home. And now it’s a weekly thing we do! She sings like an Angel, and I don’t. I broke one of our microphones doing a full on Iggy Pop routine while singing “Search and Destroy”. That was fun! I’ve also become quite “good” at singing songs by the Replacements, Superchunk, Husker Du, Descendents, Squeeze, etc. Oh and I learned a Bright Eyes song that makes her tear up every time. It’s my secret weapon.
I keep a list on my phone: Cry Me a River (Julie London, not JT), Guilty (Bonnie Raitt), At Last (Etta), Black Velvet, Promises in the Dark, Padam Padam (Piaf). Looking forward to singing again soon!
Mine? Paradise by the Dashboard Lights by Meatloaf so that tells you my general era. But what I really loved about this post in addition to everything is that I care about lyrics. My sister and I, huddled close to the radios in northern NH at night when we could pick up stations from far away, learned songs by heart. We would have raging arguments (in heated whispers so our parents would not hear us and take the radio away because we were supposed to be sleeping) about the words. My sister's position was : shut up and go with it -- if you can dance and you like the tune that's all that matters. If they didn't make sense to me, it distracted me utterly.
I have no chops. No chops at all but, this is the song that teams of women and men would get up and do after a few hours of getting sufficiently relaxed at parties and on several memorable occasions, corporate events. I was on the girls team. I am jealous and impressed that that you met Meat Loaf.
"Need You Tonight" by INXS is my favorite karaoke song, and now I really want to karaoke with you.
Let's go!
Craven Rock here. My go to's for years were Hang On Sloopy and Wooly Bully, but now fav is the call and response of Rock and Roll Part 2.

Those are some heavy hitters!
I need my diva moments!
Nothing Compares 2U
Classic!
I've only karaoked a few times, but I was drawn to anything by Guns'n'Roses (esp. Paradise City), so I could get my Axl on.
That seems like an easier choice than "Welcome to the Jungle"!
It's all about strutting.
And the hair flip!

That's great! You must have some chops to pull off the mighty Meatloaf, whom I met at a high roller fantasy football draft many moons ago...

Now that is an inspired choice!
