Until reading this, MC5 was just a band that my dad listened to when I was a kid. The story about the 8 hour DNC show helps me to build out my understanding of the band and my dad. (He was in Chicago, too.) Gonna check out the book & think about dad & Wayne shooting the shit in the afterlife. Thanks, Jim!

Nice stuff as always, Jim. Interesting point about Detroit and New Orleans. And I’ll have to add The Hard Stuff to my list

Wayne was so generous with his stage time. Dozens of my friends have pictures or tales of playing with or opening for him.

For the record, the chain of stores was "Kresge's", pronounced phonetically how you ( or Wayne ) spelled it. I would probably overlook that but it comes with an interesting connection to Detroit punk:

The heirs to that chain's fortune oversee a foundation that gives no strings attached arts grants.

Kresge Grants are a big deal here, and musician Timmy Vulgar, who sonically and idealistically is a very direct descendant of Wayne, received one of those grants years ago.

Anything by Timmy's Organism is worth a listen.
