Great stuff today.

Saw Saccharine Trust open for the Dead Kennedys in Detroit in 82.

There's a current Detroit band, friends of mine, called The Stains who do outstanding sets of very DeadBoyesque material.

My band, Almighty Lumberjacks of Death put out one 7 inch, pretty snotty, Meatmen meets Fear, I guess. Maximum Rock n Roll hated it. There's a Vietnam Vets tribute on there called Voices of the Dead, so it's no surprise they took umbrage with that, but they totally missed the context of a song I wrote called Motor City Trick or Treat, which is about the same neighborhood that inspired John Brannon's phrase "Dope, Hookers and Pavement".

Years later the guy who wrote the review came to the Shelter to see a band when I was bartending. He found out that I was in the band and apologized. Not so much that he had reconsidered the music, but that he had a greater appreciation for how tough it was to sell indie 7 inches and he should have found more positive things to say.

I think everyone has at least one review they regret. I know I do.

I put my arm around a friend at a show and said " I know you believe in these guys and they seem really cool, but they're not very good". It was Soundgarden.
