Just took Kini to see Romulus for her bday today. I really dislike going to the theatre, but was SUPER pleased with the flick. I thought the whole “emo robot” thing would grate on me at first, but actually think the Andy character on the whole was what drew me in, emotionally. Sound design and score were bonkers good! Loved it.

Would love to talk more about Alvarez's influence on the franchise!

I watched the latest Damien movie — The First Omen — on Hulu. Well done and effective, I thought. Origin story and a hell of a Rosemary’s Baby tribute (which is one of my all time all times which I got to see in a theater a few years back).

Still need to see Romulus while it's in theaters. My wife is dealing with health issues that make theaters difficult, my son can't handle the amount of gore (if Alvarez's Evil Dead is any indication of what Romulus has in store), but I might be able to get our daughter to pencil me into her schedule.

Been seeing a lot of positive talk about Strange Darling so that may be one to check out.

If you're up for well done horror comics I do have recommendations though-

James Tynion IV books- The Nice House On the Lake and Something is Killing the Children (currently being adapted for streaming).

Jeff Lemire/ Andrea Sorrentino- The Bone Orchard Mythos books and Gideon Falls.

That's a fun design for the Mohr cover!

Thanks, Steve! I am reading more comics these days so thank you for this! Strange Darling has also caught my eye.

Remembered there is a download link in this Lemire substack post for the free comic book day intro to The Bone Orchard Mythos. Short but effective taste of the series.

Sorrentino's approach to the art in the Lemire books is especially good and very atmospheric.
