Unless I’m missing something or not in on the joke, the Smashing Pumpkins song is “1979,” not “1974.”

LOL you're right! To my tired eyes a 4 looks just like a 9.

I'll always love Green Day and it's that connectedness of their live show and commitment to bringing people together to live in moment that I find truly special. They can phone it in but they don't. Glad you had a good time and I can't wait to see them in a few weeks in SD (and maybe LA if I get in).

Hey, Sean. I thought a lot about your response to seeing Foo Fighters and Olivia Rodrigo while I was at the show and how there is this built-in resistance in punk and punk purists to giving the people what they want.

Meaning that the purists don't have fun? Haha

Also hey, Martin!

Hell yeah. Green Day is fucking awesome. I put Dookie and Kerplunk on for my kids for the first time a few months ago and it was a lot of fun seeing them dance around.

I think I was grinnin through this whole Green Day bit, but the “Just Another Victim” reference was *chef’s kiss*

The one thing I miss from working for ABC News is the all-access passes to concerts. Do a lil coverage, get the big bonuses. Fun times. Great read. That sucks about Bouchercon. Never been. Hoping to go if I ever finish my thriller and get it pubbed...

Thank you! Bouchercon has a great community of young writers but the majority of attendees are, ahem, of the previous generation.

I can certainly confirm that Green Day puts on a hell of a live show. I saw them way back in 2001 (sheesh) and while I was pretty apathetic about them beforehand, I left thinking that them dudes were alright in my book. I wish they would leave out the whole picking sides shtick kick that they are on now, it's a bit of a too on the nose Dixie Chicks thing, but that's a whole other conversation.

One other (not really) bone to pick here is that I saw Pearl Jam when "10" had just come out. Eddie was still in his being an absolute maniac on stage phase, and it was a phenomenal show. I was even on the big screen because I had crowd-surfed to the front of the stage, got all sorts of twisted around, and racked my nuts on the barricade. This was confirmed by friends in the upper bowl after the show. One of those claim to fame moments that only a 30-year-old memory makes one still chuckle about. Anyway, Pearl Jam has had their eye-rolling moments/eras, but they certainly entertain.

Have a great week!

Mila and Lucia's father, Carlos de la Garza, and Bad Religion's OG guitarist (and co founder) Brett Gurewitz, have been long time friends.
