Good piece. Congrats to your daughter (sounds like a very cool kid...er... adult). My daughter ships off (sorry for the bad Navy pun) to Bates College in the fall... to Maine. Excited for her journey and will no doubt do big things like your daughter.
The restaurant/cafe/bookstore where K and I worked for years had a poster in the hallway commemorating a Ginsberg reading there in the late 70’s. The owner was an old hippie guy that had befriended Alan during his time studying film in NYC, and he had stories galore. Apparently just before the reading got started, the two went to grab something from Alan’s car and they got mugged. This story always made me laugh because Colorado Springs in the 70’s is a statistically improbable place to get mugged at knifepoint in an alley, much less so for one of the victims to be Alan fucking Ginsberg! Much love to you guys, and congrats to Annie on her accomplishments.
Inherent Vice. People say it's not on the level as his earlier stuff and they're wrong because he wrote it while he was working on Gravity's Rainbow and living in Manhattan Beach, i.e. it is his earlier stuff, it was just published later. If you're an audio book guy that narration is excellent.
I was determined to tackle Pynchon because his first novel starts with a sailor and Pynchon himself had served so I decided he'd been a role model. It took me several tries and years and years before I made it through V.
It's not for everyone, but if you love it, there's a whole world waiting for you -- and a new one coming in October.
Reading about Annie made gave me confidence and hope. Any future with her in it and others like her means we'll be okay as long as we all take care of ourselves and get out of their way.
It was also fun to get a little more detail on your writing journey. Isn't it interesting that the education that matters most doesn't necessarily come in the form of "top ten" universities or sources that are easily pegged by others as relevant or important? Here's to good teachers and fine architecture...

Congrats on the voyages ahead!
Congrats on your daughters graduation. Sounds like you raised a solid one.
Thanks but all the credit goes to her!
Jim—well done—except? Allen was a friend and he probably wouldn’t mind—but Ginsberg. Not burg.
Oh dang — thank you!
Bravo, my friend. Loved reading this.
Thank you!
Great read and congrats to your daughter. What an impressive and important journey she is on.
Thank you!

Gracias!
Great read as always, dude and I followed a handful of your recommendations.
Just one thing, and I'm almost embarrassed to say so, but I haven't read any Pynchon. Could you recommend a starting point?
Thank you!

Much appreciated, sir. I think they made that into a film? I suppose I'll read the book first.
Yes the tone of the film is off or off-putting, depending on your POV.
awesome
Loved this read, Jim!
Thank you, Aaron!

Nice use of "whole sick crew"
Sounds like your daughter's got the right idea about things
I was way out of my league but it was an incredible experience.
